This special time to celebrate the gift Jesus gave us also helped this family when things became tough. My mother's mom passed away when she was only 8, leaving behind a family of 7 children and my Grandpa Butler (sitting in this picture below). My uncle Ed is my grandpa's younger brother, and they invited the families to come together every Easter. Little did they know that this would turn into a tradition that would literally last a lifetime.
My mom, Aunt Michele, and Aunt MaryBeth posing for a picture. It was always so much fun to get together with cousins and family.
Here Aunt MaryBeth is looking through a photo book with pictures from Easter Sundays all the way back to 1975. It was so much fun to see all of the family grow up and to look through all the photos.
One tradition that I will never forget is dying eggs every year and anxiously waiting in the backyard while the grownups went and hid them in the front. There were two very special eggs, the silver egg and the gold egg. Both eggs were spraypainted plastic eggs, even before plastic eggs were the in thing. The silver egg always contained a 50 cent piece, and the gold egg always had a $2 bill in it. Even with inflation this never changed. I still remember the time I found the golden egg! So neat!

This year Samantha was the one to find the golden egg! She still hasn't decided what she will spend the money on, but it was such a treat, especially with the rough start she has had this year.

Many thanks go to Aunt Eloise and Uncle Ed for hosting this year after year. The memories and time spent as a family are definitely a small taste of heaven here on this earth.
Ok this post was so sweet it made me cry. Thank God for traditions and I can only pray that we can make these kind of memories for our own families. Jess
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat tradition! Can I ask why it's the last time?
ReplyDeleteThey have a lot on their plate recently, and they are selling their house, unfortunately.
