Looks like Monday is our go home day!!!!! Yay!!!!! She is continuing to have small fevers, but nothing over 100.5, so as long as it stays that way, and no knew infections start to incur, and picc line stays clean, we will get to go home!!!!! We are having issues with the picc line leaking fluids, but they think as long as they can tighten the entry site and re-dress it (lots and lots of tape) it will not be replaced. They have decided to do iv antibiotics for the full 6 weeks, which means possibly having to postpone or cancel Disneyland, but I will have to talk with the doctors to see if there are alternatives so we can still go. What a way to celebrate the ending of all this, right? :)
We may not be out and about for a while, just cause her little body is still fighting the infection in her bones, and I would hate for her to catch something else that would set her back. She is sleeping and sweating a ton, which has a lot to do with fighting off the infection, so all good signs that her immune system is working. She is going to go for some physical therapy today to help her with her leg since she hasn't used it in 2 weeks now, and she is very timid to put any weight on it at all (timid meaning she screams bloody murder everytime I try to convince her to just put her toes to the ground) :)
I do have to tell one story about a friend I made while here though that just breaks my heart and would love to see everyone praying for her. We have had 3 roomates, one of which was Emily Grace, a 5 day old baby having trouble because breastmilk was not thick enough and she was aspirating the liquid into her lungs. Her mom was of course exhausted from just giving birth and then heading back into the hospital, and they didn't have any family in town, so her husband stayed home with the kiddos age 6 and 4 while she was in the hospital. Well she got to go home 3 days ago with a little thing called simply thick to thicken her food she was eating, but was spitting a lot of it back up. Well yesterday, her mom came back into our room, and let me know that her daughter was air vacced here to have 3/4 of her stomach removed because it had died. Emily is now in the NICU here and they are uncertain if she will live through this next week. If the family lets me know of anything they need I will be sure to pass it along, but please, please, please pray for little Emily Grace. I have seen first hand how God is working through my personal situation, and I know they would truly appreciate the prayers. I will update you as I know more.
I will tell you what though, being in the hospital for this length of time just reminds me how fragile life can be and how important it is to just enjoy each other's company while we still have it, not worrying over petty pointless things. Was that just a Dr. Phil moment? :) Hoping to bring good news tomorrow for both Samantha and little Emily Grace.

That's good to hear that Sammy gets to finally go home! I had a picc line feeding me antibiotics for 6 wks also. Not fun! I'll be praying for Sammy and little Emily Grace. Poor baby.
ReplyDeleteLook at those pictures! She is looking so brave and strong. I agree with your Dr. Phil moment, it sounds even better if you say it in his southern twang. :) Again, everyone here is praying for you, we love her from a thousand miles away, and can't wait for her to get better.
