Here are a couple of pictures and an update for Sammy. The cultures from the blood draw from the er on Wednesday have come back grand positive, which means some sort of staph infection. We are not yet sure what type but they have here on vancomycin, which is one of the strongest antibiotics out there. (The ortho surgeon just came in and told us the blood cultures now are growing mrsa so at least we know what it is). They are waiting for her blood to clear of the infection, and then at that point they will put in a picc line to administer her antibiotics so that she won't have to have the iv. They are thinking maybe Sunday. She will then remain here for about a week longer so they can monitor her vitals and make sure she is still improving. After that we get to go home where she will have the iv antibiotics for about two weeks followed by a couple more weeks of oral antibiotics. Her fever is getting much better and is starting to respond to tylenol and motrin which is good! We had a minor setback this morning where she threw up, so they switched back to the morphene until she is eating better. Hannah misses her sissy like crazy and is asking about her hourly!!! Luckily they can talk to each other on the phone. I will have to record one of their conversations cause it is pretty cute!
Here is Sammy chillin' in bed with all of her stuffed animal toys. We got to change her clothes today and so she is sporting her now heart dress. SHe is soo excited to get to wear dresses again, cause I made her put them away for winter. This girl would wear a dress 24/7 if I let her!!!

The multi-colored curtain separates this 10x15 room in half and we have a little boy we share our room with on the other side. His name is Eddie and he is about Sammy's age, but he has head trama and doesn't move or talk. Sometimes we hear him and try to talk to him, but since we are confined we haven't gone over to see him cause we don't want to get him sick. His parents live up in Yuma, and I just couldn't imagine what they have to go through. It really makes me appreciate how healthy my kids have been. There is about 2 feet on the other side of Sammy's bed which is where A chair is for me to sleep. Sooooo, not much space.

This is what we see from the bed. As you can see Sammy is watching Disney channel, a luxury she doesn't get at home, and she is taking full advantage of it. She has a boquet of baloons she likes to hold sometimes, and the floor, and that peach chest is full of toys and activities brought to us by friends and family.

Here is Sammy saying thank you. I will try to catch one of the time she is in better spirits. She is pretty tired and grouchy most of the day, but there is about an hour or so whene the fevers are down and she has pain meds in her where she is her same old talkative self, so hopefully we will get to see more of that Sammy very soon! Love you guys and thank you for the prayers.
Wow! I feel for you both! I know how hard is is to have your little one in the hospital. At least they know what it is and can get on with the treatment! We hope you're all feeling better soon and can't wait for Sammy to get home! Please let me know if there is anything I can do while you're away from home, I'm right around the corner! We're praying like crazy over here!

Still praying for you guys. I'm glad things are looking good.
ReplyDeleteYou can't imagine how many people across the country - literally! -are praying for your family and specifically Sammy. We have asked family and friends to spread the word, and have gotten an incredible response:CA, FL, NY, NJ, PA and the list goes on. We all look forward to hearing more good news.
ReplyDeleteMuch love, Nonna (Becky's Mom)
Glad to hear the update. I hope she continues to improve. We will keep praying for you all. Having a child sick is the worst thing for mom. I hope you can go home soon.
ReplyDeleteHey guys,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the update. You all are in our prayers everyday. If you need anything I am straight up the 51, come and shower, rest, eat, whatever you need. Seriously it's like a 10-15min max. Just give me a call.

The first thing Zach said when he woke up today was "I hope Sammy is better today". We are thinking of you & praying for a quick recovery and for some sanity for you Jessica, sleeping in that little chair (I remember that chair from when Charlie was in PCH...not so fun). I know it's been said a million times, but please, please let us know if you need anything!! Love, Erin & boys
ReplyDeleteJessica,
ReplyDeleteKylie wants to tell Sammy that she hopes she feels better soon. We were sad to hear about her getting sooo sick. You guys are in our prayers. Hang in there. Do you need anything to keep you entertained? I can only imagine the stress you and your family are going through.
We have never been to a blog before, it is really neat. If I can get my hubby to help we will send a video later. I am not the technical one!
