Sammy in the hospital

Hey all. I have internet access at the hospital (thank you jess spangler!!!) so I wanted to update you all on the situation that has brought us here. First of all, I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who has visited, helped to watch Hannah, brought or sent gifts, but most importantly prayed for us. I know that God is working in our family's life right now and your prayers have truly been appreciated.
I won't go into the whole story on the blog, but I thought this would be the easiest way to update everyone, because I am having a really hard time remembering who I told what (either due to lack of sleep, or the morphene I stole from Sam :). I brought Sammy to the Phoenix Children's ER Wedesday morning at about 3 ish due to a high fever of 105.2 that wasn't responding wo tylenol and her hurt leg (She hasn't been able to walk on it since Monday and we kept going back to the pediatrician office with no progress) After spending the whole day in ER and getting xrays and and ultrasound and bloddwork done, they admitted us into the hospital, and knocked Sammy out for an MRI. Well the mri showed extensive infection in her leg, they ordered immediate surgery.
The surgery was to drain her knee and thigh and to go into the bone. and drain it as well. We are still awaiting the results of that, but the initial blood draw shows that there is bacteria growing in her blood. That means some sort of staff (sorry for the spelling) infection, and the ortho surgeon believes it to be mrsa. We won't find out until possibly Sunday what it actually is. Soooo, we are in the hospital until further notice, I tried to pull out of the doc how long they believe, and he though bare minimum a week, so time will tell. Sammy is in way better spirits today than yesterday, and so is mommy. :) Sammy just woke and is bugging me to see all her new cool books, so I am going to get going. Feel free to call us at 623-760-3359 I have my charger now so my phone won't die. Please don't be offended if I don't pick up. There are doctors in and out of here all the time, and Samantha is NOT the best patient, must take after her daddy :) lol, just kidding, sort of :) Her fever is still pretty consistent, and she still cant get up due to the surgery.

Kids under 12 are not allowed right now, so we miss Hannah and I hope to take a break and go see her this weekend. Please continue to pray that the antibiotics work in killing the infection, that if they have to go back into the leg that they don't have to cut into the growth plate(a very scary concern last night) and for healing as all of our family has a cold right now.
Talk to you all soon!

  1. Hey Jess,
I'm sorry to hear about Sammy. Being with your kid in the hospital is not a pleasant experience. I hope she feels better soon and that the rest of you recover from your colds. In the meantime, enjoy the food and watch lots of television.

  4. Lindy is sending big hugs to Sammy. She's been asking how she's doing and we've been praying for her at every mealtime (I haven't been able to explain it just yet because it brings me to tears so we stick to "Sammy is hurt and she needs you to pray".) May God give you all strength.

  5. SO MANY are lifting each of you up in prayer...and we are among them. It's difficult to be a parent to a sick one and have a wee one at home...I remember all too well. We are thinking about and praying for you all as well as the medical staff. Looking forward to better news! Love from Nonna and Grampa Tom
